We knew when we started out that we wanted to provide cyber security services to charitable or not-for-profit organisations that directly support our underprivileged communities.
And drawing on inspiration from our friends at Project Black, we've decided to match their contribution to underserved communities.
What's involved
Each year, we commit to delivering at least two pro bono cyber security projects for eligible charities and not-for-profit organisations.
These projects may focus on one or multiple of the following areas:
- Penetration testing - identifying vulnerabilities before they can be exploited
- Engineering services - strengthening technical infrastructure and security controls
- Governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) - improving policies, processes, and frameworks to meet security standards
Every project is capped at 10 days of hands-on testing, implementation, or auditing. Our goal is to empower organisations that lack the resources to invest in cyber security, helping them safeguard the communities they serve.
Who will be eligible
We're looking for organisations that are in any of the below categories.
Organisations serving underserved communities
Australian non-profits that provide direct services to vulnerable or underserved populations, including but not limited to:
- Healthcare clinics and outreach programs supporting disadvantaged groups
- Mental health and wellbeing services, including crisis helplines
- Employment and training services for unemployed, underemployed, or at-risk individuals
- Financial counselling, literacy programs, and emergency relief providers
- Shelters, housing support services, and women's refuges
- Food banks, community kitchens, and organisations addressing food insecurity
- Disability support organisations helping people access essential care and resources
- Indigenous and culturally diverse community support programs
Small organisations with limited resources
Non-profit organisations with:
- An annual operating budget of less than $400,000 AUD
- Limited or no dedicated IT/cyber security staff
- Heavy reliance on volunteers and community funding to deliver services
Organisations facing cyber security challenges
Non-profits that are currently:
- Recovering from or responding to a recent data breach or cyber incident
- Aware of critical vulnerabilities that require urgent remediation
- Handling sensitive personal data (such as health, financial, or identity information) without sufficient security controls in place
